Privacy Policy

How FilrAI handles app data, cloud AI requests, local storage, third-party services, and support communications.

Effective date: September 3, 2026

FilrAI is a macOS app for researching public companies through SEC filings, company disclosures, document tools, and AI-assisted features. This Privacy Policy explains what information FilrAI processes, where it is processed, and the choices available to you.

Privacy at a Glance

FilrAI does not require an account. Most research data is stored locally on your Mac. Information leaves your device when FilrAI retrieves public information, when an AI-powered feature runs, or when you contact support. FilrAI does not sell personal information, serve advertisements, or track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Information Processed by FilrAI

Depending on the features you use, FilrAI may process:

  • Company searches, ticker symbols, watched companies, filing references, and research questions.
  • Downloaded or cached filing data, notes, annotations, highlighted text, uploaded documents, model settings, and app preferences.
  • Prompts, questions, filing excerpts, document text, relevant annotations, and generated responses when AI-powered features run.
  • Your email address, message contents, and any attachments you choose to provide when contacting support.
  • Basic network and request information that cloud providers may process automatically, such as an IP address, request time, endpoint, response status, and diagnostic identifiers.

When FilrAI requests public data from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, it sends a fixed application identifier containing the FilrAI name and support email address. This identifier does not contain your name or email address.

Local Storage

App settings, cached filing data, watchlists, notes, annotations, uploaded documents, and preferences are stored locally on your Mac unless you use a feature that clearly requires an external service. Local app data is not uploaded merely because it is stored in FilrAI.

Local data remains on your device until you delete it through the app or macOS, clear the relevant app data, or uninstall FilrAI.

Cloud AI Processing

FilrAI uses cloud AI for features such as filing summaries, company research, semantic document search, document chat, and annotation insights. When one of these features runs, FilrAI sends the content needed to complete the request to a FilrAI cloud service operated on Cloudflare and then to OpenAI. Depending on the feature, this may include prompts, questions, selected filing excerpts, document text, relevant annotations, conversation context, and generated responses.

Uploaded documents remain local unless you use them with a cloud AI feature. For document chat, extracted document text may be uploaded to OpenAI and indexed temporarily so the service can retrieve relevant passages. FilrAI configures the associated vector store to expire after one day of inactivity and requests deletion of the vector store and uploaded file when the session is cleaned up. Provider-side processing and deletion remain subject to the provider's systems and policies.

Do not submit account credentials, private financial records, confidential company information, material non-public information, or sensitive personal information to cloud AI features.

How Information Is Used

FilrAI processes information only as needed to provide the feature you request, retrieve public company information, generate AI-assisted results, maintain app and service security, diagnose failures, respond to support requests, and comply with legal obligations.

Service Providers and Public Data Sources

FilrAI relies on the following categories of third parties:

  • Cloudflare hosts and operates the service that routes FilrAI's cloud AI requests.
  • OpenAI processes content submitted to AI-powered features and returns generated results.
  • GitHub Pages hosts this website.
  • Public data sources, including SEC systems, company investor-relations websites, and market-information providers, supply public company information.
  • Email providers process messages sent to FilrAI support.

Service providers that process data on FilrAI's behalf are required to protect it in a manner consistent with this policy and applicable law. They also process information under their own terms and privacy policies. You can review the relevant policies for Cloudflare, OpenAI, and GitHub.

Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking

FilrAI does not sell personal information, use advertising frameworks, or track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. The app does not currently include third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Cloud and website hosting providers may process ordinary service logs for security, reliability, and abuse prevention under their own policies.

Retention, Deletion, and Your Choices

You control locally stored FilrAI data through the app and macOS. You can prevent future cloud AI processing by not using AI-powered features. Uninstalling FilrAI removes the app, although macOS may retain app-related files or backups according to your system settings.

OpenAI states that API abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days by default, unless longer retention is required by law. Some OpenAI features, including files and vector stores used for document chat, may retain application state until it is deleted or expires. Because FilrAI does not use user accounts, it may not be possible to identify or retrieve a specific cloud AI request after it has been processed.

Support emails may be retained as needed to respond to requests and maintain ordinary business records. You may contact FilrAI to request deletion of support communications associated with your email address. Requests involving data held independently by a third-party provider may need to be directed to that provider.

Children's Privacy

FilrAI is intended for financial research and is not directed to children under 13. FilrAI does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Children under 13 should not use FilrAI or submit information through the app, its cloud AI features, or support email.

Security

FilrAI uses encrypted network connections when transmitting data to cloud and third-party services. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and FilrAI cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as FilrAI's features, service providers, or data practices change. The effective date above will be revised when the policy is updated. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on this website when appropriate.
